Shorea is possibly the best choice for outdoor furniture. Left untreated, Shorea wood will weather to a silvery gray. To maintain original color, apply teak cleaner & protector seasonally. These items are available at local hardware stores.

I bought this bench to put on my new patio. It was very easy to assemble and went together in about 30 minutes. I put a coat of teak oil on it after assembly, although I am not sure it is really necessary. It goes well with two new luan adirondack chairs that I bought on-line too. The bench is good quality, heavy wood, and well made for easy assembly. I would definitely buy another.

The wood was a nice color and seemed to be decent quality. There were very few pieces and screws, so assembly looked to be very easy. But right out of the box, mine had a giant crack in the leg which rendered the bench useless. I had to return it and there were no other benches available to replace it. Very disappointed. I gave it 4 stars because it looked like the bench would have been very nice but either the packing wasn't adequate or the shipper beat it up.

Red wood color is nice and true to the picture but the bench doesn't seem like it will support much weight - it creaks pretty badly with just a little weight on it. And be prepared to give your hands a workout putting it together with the allen wrenches they provide. It'll work but it just isn't the sturdy bench I had thought it would be.

I recently ordered two Ellsworth 5-foot garden benches for our non-profit foundation's grounds. We had previously purchased similar benches from another firm, now out of business. So when my web search found the Ellsworths, they appeared to be what I sought ... but one can never be sure, on-line. Credit my delight when they arrived, just two days placing the order, in excellent condition. Assembly was as easy as described and even the tools to do so were provided. Well-designed, well-engineered, the benches are a delight, very attractive, and according to reviews of this particular kind of wood (in the teak family!), they should provide long service in an outdoor setting. Thanks, Hayneedle; restores some faith in the blind purchase.

A: This can be stained. We recommend using a water base.
Q2: Can you tell me the color stain that was used on the bench?
A: Since the bench was made from eucalyptus shorea, the manufacturer recommends that you use a stain that has a reddish mahogany finish.
Q3: Is this brown or black?
A: The bench is a medium, red-brown color which reflects the natural color of the cedar wood. This bench is not finished or painted.
Q4: How far above the ground is the seat?
A: The seat height is 18 inches.
