POLYWOOD® material is made of HDPE plastic resin that has been purified and UV protected. It is generally cared for and cleaned with soap and warm water.
For certain stains and additional cleaning power, a 1/3 bleach and 2/3 water solution can be used on the product without affecting the color.
Also, a popular method of cleaning is a high-pressure power wash. (Not to exceed 1,500 psi, which is the equivalent of a car wash.) The surface characteristics of the product may require the use of a soft bristle brush to get into the creases.
The hardware used in the assembly and construction of our furniture is an 18-8 commercial-grade stainless steel that has an additional Xylan protective and cosmetic coating. Although the quality of the hardware has a high level of corrosive resistance, the hardware can show some sign of corrosion in salt air environments.
A practical solution to these signs of corrosion would be to wash the product with soap and water. Use a soft bristle brush to scrub the corroding areas of the hardware. Also, use appliance touch-up paint in the appropriate color to protect the hardware. Appliance touch up-paint can be purchased at local hardware stores.

We've looked everywhere and it was impossible to find an attractive weatherproof bench that would withstand our rainy fall/winters as we don't have much storage area. The bench is is a covered area but still exposed to the elements; it's not cheaply made, in fact it weighs 69 lbs. The directions were easy to follow but the only difficulty we had was attaching the seat to the back. Thank you Hayneedle for a great product! It will be getting a lot of use:)

I am in the process of building a patio and plan to include this piece for friends and family to use. It is solid and has a secure feel when you sit. the only CON is that it looks so good sitting on my lawn that I may have to get additional furniture to place on the patio when complete.

It is a very sturdy design with metal bracing for high stress locations. Zero maintanence. One screw hole did not line up, and required a drill to enlarge the hole a little. Holes for the plastic pins between the back and seat did not line up and were not installed. They are not structural and have no obvious function, so there absence is not a concern.

The box was beat up when we got it but the bench is very durable, so no harm done. One of the pieces did not line up with the holes drilled, we called the manufacture and they sent out the new piece promptly. The bench has wood texture, is comfortable and very easy to clean. I will never have to buy another bench for my front porch.
